Trains
There are two train stations in Delft; Delft and Delft Zuid. The main station, Delft, is near the center of the town, while Delft Zuid is on the south side of town. You can buy tickets from booths at the stations, and you can check times and prices at the Netherlands rail website.
Trams and Buses
Tram 1 heads north towards Scheveningen (the beach) and Den Haag from the southeast corner of Tanthof in Delft. There are more trams available in Den Haag. The main bus station is at the Delft station. Here buses travel in various directions.
Across Europe
For most travel both short and long distance the most practical means of transportation is the railway system. Other options include cheap airlines such as Ryan Air and travel deals with the ISIC card and student travel agencies such as STA.
By Air
For long trips, it's usually cheapest to go by plane. You can find cheap deals with budget airlines like RyanAir, but they don't fly out of Amsterdam. You may be able to save money by taking a train to Belgium and flying out of Brussels or Charleroi. To look up flights, Sky Scanner is a great resource.
By Train
For train travel, nothing is easier than going to the international office in the Rotterdam, Den Haag, or Amsterdam Centraal train stations (though in Amsterdam you may have to wait a while). You can find online resources for your trip at Rail Europe. If you're taking a long trip you may want to look at getting a train pass. A variety of different rail passes are offered. With the pass you can get on any train that does not require a reservation whenever you want. Some trains require a reservation (i.e. high speed trains like the ICE, TGV, RailJet, etc.). It is best to reserve as early as possible for these. If you are specifically looking for trips in/to/through Germany try the German rail site www.bahn.de. They occasionally have deals like a 39 Euro one way ticket.
By Bus
If you would like to look into traveling across europe by bus you can find more information at eurolines.com. Bus travel is sometimes the cheapest, but it'll take you a long time to get there.
Accomodations
A good website for finding and reserving a place at a hostel is Hostel World.
